We are proud members of the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce, Chamber of Commerce for Greater Montgomery County and Discover Doylestown, and the enthusiasm of our audiences and sponsors grows each year. We are one of only a few theater groups in the tri-state area that produces only Gilbert & Sullivan musicals, and because of the G-rated nature and witty humor of these shows they are a perfect way to introduce youngsters to the operatic form. Our directors and conductors are regarded as expert in making these turn-of-the-century musicals appealing and accessible to modern audiences.

The Bucks County Gilbert & Sullivan Society is a high-quality amateur theater company, gathering close to 100 local musicians, actors and staff to mount each of our shows. We present the timeless, family-friendly creations of the inventors of modern musical comedy, Gilbert and Sullivan. This British team wrote over a dozen operettas for the stage that may sound familiar, including The Pirates of Penzance, The Mikado and H.M.S. Pinafore. It’s our mission to preserve these classics of comedy and beautiful music for our community.

Now in our 17th Season, we enthusiastically offer Gilbert & Sullivan’s hilarious spoof of British society and classes, the musical H.M.S. Pinafore from June 19-21 at Delaware Valley University. In the show, a common sailor aboard the Pinafore named Ralph Rackstraw falls in love with Josephine, the captain’s daughter, but their romance is derailed because of the difference in their social ranks. The farcical plot includes a stuffy Major-General who is also in love with Josephine, a bustling bevy of his sisters, cousins and aunts, stalwart sailors, a forlorn sea captain and Little Buttercup, a dockside vendor with a long-held secret—all singing Sullivan’s resplendent music and accompanied by our 40-piece live orchestra. The delightful score includes the patter song “When I Was a Lad“ as well as “I’m Called Little Buttercup”, “Fair Moon, to Thee I Sing” and “Never Mind the Why and Wherefore.”

Every spring and fall we stage Dessert Cabarets featuring G&S favorites, Broadway gems and delicious desserts. Our annual Handel’s Messiah Sing-Along in December attracts hundreds of community members to celebrate the most recognized Christmas choral work in history with genuine audience participation. The event is accompanied by the 40-piece Bucks County Gilbert & Sullivan Orchestra.
